Years after her controversial performance with American pop and R&B group 98 Degrees, Regine Velasquez finally talks about the reason why she intentionally upstaged the group’s lead vocal, Nick Lachey during the song number.
98 Degrees, together with Regine, performed “The Hardest Thing” on now defunct Sunday musical show, SOP.
On her interview with BrightWin Ninangs Live! the Asia’s Song Bird recalls the reason why she decided to do that.
“Iyang si Nick Lachey, nuknukan ng yabang. Nuknukan ng yabang! But the other guys are really cool.” Regine revealed.
Regine were talking about Jeff Timmons, Drew Lachey, and Justin Jeffre.
Added her, “Siyempre, medyo oriental ang hitsura ng lola mo so nagagandahan sila sa akin, di ba? Lumalandi-landi ng ganoon nang very light.
“Iyong Nick Lachey, ang salbahe!”
The singer and host did not detail the reason why Lachey as allegedly not treating her fairly, but it was enough for the actress to plot something for revenge.
“Sige ka, mamaya, humanda ka sa akin!”
Regine furthered, “Kinain ko talaga siya! Kasi minsan hindi naman ako nangangain, di ba, relax-relax lang.
“E, iyong kanta nila, ang taas, e.
“Biruin mo umpisa pa lang, nagmamagaling! Baklang ito. Humanda ka sa akin, hindi ka na maririnig!
“So nagulat siya. Kasi noong nagrerehearsal kami… nagulat siya, kinain ko talaga siya.
“Nainis ako kasi parang, ‘Bakla, nasa country ka namin, ha. Huwag kang umarte-arte diyan.
After the perfomance, one of the members, Jeff Timmons, expressed her amazement for Regine’s adlib during the performance.
“We find the Philippine audience to be amazing and supported us from day one.
“I just have to say, we have to give her one more round of applause because that was awesome!”
